Abstract: The article reports on the statement issued by Steve Barnett, chief executive of the National Health Service (NHS) Confederation, regarding the role of human resources (HR) in driving efficiencies in the health service during an economic crisis. He states that efficiencies in backroom functions such as human resources (HR), finance and information technology (IT) were more likely to involve an increased use of shared-service providers instead of widespread job losses.
